Bespoke Notifications Engine for International Parcel Delivery Giant.


What they needed.


As the home shopping revolution has continued to grow, so too have the requirements for national parcel delivery services as – as a result – the client has grown rapidly, year-on-year. A significant element of the modern parcel delivery customer experience is via notifications (email, SMS & push), ensuring that customers understand where their parcel is up to, and when it will arrive. Over the years this had led to significant cost increases in the client’s business, with the company processing more than 5m SMS messages per week (and many more in peak periods). In addition, managing the integrations between Retailers’ systems and the clients own operational platforms had become unnecessarily complicated.

The client needed to replace its Notifications service with a modern, serverless and easier to manage platform, and one which would allow “bring your own carrier”, enabling them to negotiate improved rates for Notification execution.

How we helped.


Using carefully selected Amazon Web Services products, Mission Labs designed and engineered a completely bespoke Notifications Engine for the client – including the ability to communicate with multiple third-party APIs, set up new retail partners and customers quickly, and execute notifications on-demand to SMS, Email and Push channels via their app. Designing and deploying on AWS provides an extremely robust and reliable cloud-based and serverless notifications solution, with the added benefit of consumption-based pricing, significantly reducing the client’s cost to serve.

Mission Labs designed, built, tested, and migrated the client from its incumbent notifications platform to the new, bespoke Notifications Engine in less than 6 weeks from start to finish.
